Microhematuria symptoms

Microhematuria can indicate an absolutely harmless occurrence or it may be indicating quite a serious disease or malfunction. The fact that it is termed “micro” hematuria may give people the false impression that since it is “a little” it can not be serious. This logic is flawed. While statistically when we cross the street on green we will be safe, many times we have listened to the advice to look both ways before crossing, and on occasion it has saved us from serious injury or death. This is the same when it comes to neglecting our diagnosis of micro hematuria. We may get away with not taking some follow up diagnostic tests, but is our health or our life worth it. Most people split the difference in the logic, and recall past incidences that could have been medical symptoms, others simply move forward and take further diagnostic tests to clear any speculation on their health.
Microhematuria is a symptom for a whole list of diseases or injuries. Here are some other symptoms to take into account. How often have you urinated blood? Have you had painful urination or burning when urinating? Do you wake up to urinate and if so how often do you wake up to urinate? Do you feel like you do not empty your bladder after you urinate? How often do you leak urine? When urinating does the stream start and stop on command or do you need to push or strain to begin urination? Can you hold your urine or does the desire to urinate become uncontrollable? Do you have a weak stream? Do you have flank pain or pain in the side? Do you smoke cigarettes, if so, how many?
As you can tell the answers to these questions can help guide our urologists in diagnosing your possible condition.
Our Columbia University Division of Urology staff of Miami urologists at Mount Sinai Medical Center will then arrange for the appropriate diagnostic tests according to your chief complaints and medical history along with your recent urinary function assessment.
Microhematuria may be an acute or first time occurrence indicating that something new has occurred whether harmless or serious. Some people choose to wait and have their urine tested a little while later to see if it happens again. Others, especially with other symptoms, follow up with diagnostic tests at our world class medical facility. If the diagnosis of hematuria has been occurring before, then it has become a chronic condition and finding the source of the blood is your only concern.
